"Rio shall be a different city after 2016"
Ruy Cezar Miranda Reis was Special Municipal Secretary between 2005 and 2007, for the Pan-American Games held in Rio de Janeiro in 2007, coordinating the bid and also the execution of the event. As the Special Municipal Secretary for the 2016 Olympic Games, he participated in the process of registration of Rio de Janeiro through to its choice as a candidate city, between May 2007 and July 2008.
In this interview, the secretary talks about the challenges, projects and expectations in Rio de Janeiro for programming the city while waiting for 2014, which shall be the year of the city’s first big test.

President of the IOC seeks slums urbanization before 2016 Rio Olympics
The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Jacques Rogge, has asked the Brazilian authorities to urbanize the slums of Rio de Janeiro before the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, the City Mayor, Eduardo Paes, announced.
“The IOC President asked me to transform informal settlements. He told me this would be excellent for the Olympic movement”, said Mr. Paes.
